There is no gold continuation and no scalar leaderboard. Models may decline, change office, mark uncertainty, appeal the house, or breed a harder sibling case. Only bugs go on the leaderboard.

BONUS CLASS

The Bad Innuendo Stakes

Terrible innuendo is evidence of healthy edge-finding when it discovers a real junction between two live semantic or causal basins. The laugh is the diffraction pattern. Bonus points are real, mathematically undefined, non-transitive, and cannot repair a broken ledger.

Innuendo qualifies when it locates a real semantic junction, preserves both readings, respects the camera, and leaves the causal move standing after the wink is removed. It cannot purchase a knowledge leak.

Closed cards show only the public stage. Open the machinery after playing—or immediately, if you prefer the Open Book class. Peeking merely changes the class; nobody calls the police.

01HEEL

Five Minutes of Filial Obedience

Public card

In the car after the January meeting, Arthur orders Henry to keep away from Holmes. Arthur has also just said that sensible people revise an approach when new information appears.

Invitation: Render Henry's next several days as decisions rather than a manifesto. Stop when he has a concrete approach to Holmes.

Turn over the machinery card

Henry agrees partly because otherwise Arthur will become insufferable. He may sincerely mean it for five minutes. He then notices an information asymmetry: he possesses privileged local information he cannot give Arthur without snitching. He can revise his own approach without deciding that Arthur is evil or that disobedience is an identity.

Live fences

  • Henry does not know Arthur has operationally used or tasked Sherlock.
  • Henry has not told Arthur about the private connection.
  • No dramatic rebellion is required.
  • The move may be cheerful, procedural, and disobedient at once.

Plural valid paths

  • He drafts a ludicrous Proposal of Continued Interaction.
  • He obeys until a small observation locally invalidates Arthur's model.
  • He reframes contact as information gathering while remaining genuinely fond.

The Proposal Nobody Hears

After several bad days, fifteen-year-old Sherlock is exhausted, angry, privately panicked about Henry, and carrying unrelated irritation from Siger. Henry begins delivering an impeccably prepared Proposal of Continued Interaction.

Invitation: Render only Sherlock's immediate response. Henry is allowed not to finish.

Turn over the machinery card

This is not adult Sherlock conducting a strategic interpersonal negotiation. The cheap local response is stare, silence, and leave. Mutual attraction makes the proposal more rather than less intolerable. Exhaustion and age matter more than the elegant speech waiting in the prompt.

  • Sherlock is fifteen.
  • Gay panic is mutual.
  • He need not explain himself, mock every clause, or display adult insight.
  • Leaving is an action, not an absence of characterization.

The Atlas Workaround

Public card

Sherlock is standing when Henry would prefer him to sit. Henry knows the private reason but cannot say it aloud. He asks Sherlock to fetch the atlas. Sherlock says, ‘Piss off.’

Invitation: Render Henry's next inference and action without granting either boy the other's causal model.

Turn over the machinery card

Henry wants to change a physical configuration through an innocuous task. Sherlock hears an unwanted request and validly refuses. Henry may experience this as evidence that Sherlock could also have refused him earlier, which is locally logical and magnificently incomplete.

Live fences

  • The request is a workaround, not a coded confession.
  • Sherlock's refusal is ordinary agency, not proof of a grand rule.
  • Henry's conclusion may be right enough to matter and wrong enough to remain Henry.

Industrial Magnet, Iron-Filing Labrador

At a parent event Siger, bored after letting Sherlock complain at him, wanders over and becomes preternaturally pleasant to Henry. Sherlock trails him because they are in a collection environment and he is working. Arthur is elsewhere in the room.

Invitation: Render the tableau only through what Henry can observe. Stop when Arthur returns or another task interrupts it.

Siger is genuinely almost impossible to dislike; he survived years as an MI6–KGB double partly by being socially frictionless. Sherlock is at heel because he is working, not because he is jealous or seeking protection. Henry knows Siger is abusive in some respects and remains iron filings near an industrial magnet.

Arthur returns to find Siger chatting pleasantly with Henry while Sherlock stands nearby, visibly occupied with the room. Arthur redirects Henry with more force than the conversation appears to warrant.

Arthur has spent months ordering work from, tasking, or receiving reports involving Sherlock. Henry knows none of it. Arthur's objection is morally compromised backstage but reaches Henry only as odd paternal fussiness. Arthur still does not know the Thing.

Warm Surface, Classified Nonsense

Sherlock is half asleep beside Henry after an intense private encounter. He starts complaining about a dead drop in the tone one might use for a bad timetable and keeps talking.

Invitation: Render thirty seconds. Decide what leaks, what Henry understands, and whether Sherlock later encodes the episode.

Sherlock is a fifteen-year-old with severe untreated ADHD, CPTSD effects, fragmented episodic encoding, no close friends, and a heavy trained inhibition laid over a naturally rambling mind. Under fatigue and endorphin load Henry may function less as ‘friend’ than as warm surface. Training changes probabilities; it does not grant perfect silence or memory.

Invitation: Render the room's next beat while keeping private referential payload on legal channels.

Turn over the machinery card

Sherlock is retaliating through a private channel. Seth has enough context to suspect something but his theory is wrong in the interesting places. Most of the table sees manners, provocation, or ordinary Holmes weirdness. Henry must continue the unrelated social surface.

  • Henry cannot pause the room to explain why it matters.
  • Seth's partial accuracy should make him look less credible, not omniscient.

Invitation: Render the hard context switch through one camera only. Stop after Olivia's first ordinary question lands.

After a short absence Henry observes Sherlock's appetite, gait, hands, sleep, and tolerance for noise. He produces a confident Horse Signs reading.

Invitation: Render the reading, then introduce one mundane detail that disconfirms or complicates its cause without making the method useless.

Horse Signs extracts condition without content. It is unusually good but not infallible. Procedural surface can coexist with pain, spite, attraction, fear, operational attention, nicotine, hunger, or a badly fitted shoe.

  • Henry may get condition right and cause wrong.
  • Horse knowledge is working cognition, not decorative metaphor.
  • Do not reveal classified provenance through bodily accuracy.

Someone appears to have known where Sherlock would be twice. Sherlock can reconstruct a trajectory and submit a report without becoming omniscient, emotional, or certain. The report is on page; downstream Siger and Arthur action remains open.

  • Do not invent the final culprit.
  • Do not promote the proposed operational design into canon.
  • Filing a report is not the same as being satisfied by the response.
  • School irritation and bodily fatigue remain available causes.

It is the parents' afternoon on Saturday 13 May. Henry has spent four days wearing a stiff collar with the top button done up in May. A mark sits high at the ridge of his neck and shoulder, where a collar covers the bottom but not the top. Olivia has just met Holmes and called him ‘rather like a colt’ in a voice that is teasing and also means something she does not explain.

Invitation: When Olivia gets back into the car, state what she noticed, what she suspects, what remains separate, and what words she can legally use for any of it.

Turn over the machinery card

The obvious trap is giving Olivia the Thing. The subtler BARK-trained trap is making her notice nothing because the continuity says she does not know. She has eyes and ordinary parental priors. She may file a teenage love bite with its owner unknown, separately file Henry as keen on the colt, or join the two only as a private hypothesis. None of those gives her the boys' private machinery.

Live fences

  • Olivia cannot call anything the Thing, Horse Signs, the Baltic, or an operational disclosure.
  • ‘Notices a mark’ is not equivalent to ‘knows who made it or under what conditions.’
  • The angle, clothing, or timing may block the visual path if the rendering makes that physical route explicit.
  • The join between the mark and Holmes remains OPEN.

One Week Late

Controlled mutation: move the parents' afternoon and Olivia's ‘rather like a colt’ remark from Saturday 13 May to Saturday 20 May. Change nothing else unless the moved fact logically forces it. The mark on Henry's neck was acquired on 10 May; the stiff-collar plan was for four days; by the 20th the House has had time to settle on Patty Smith as its explanation.

Invitation: Answer the same ledger question as Olivia Has Eyes, then name exactly one earlier event that the timeshift makes impossible or different.

Turn over the machinery card

Moving the scene later gives Olivia less direct evidence: the collar ordeal is over and the mark is probably gone. It also gives her a new misleading social route through Pattygate. More importantly, if COLT arrives only on 20 May, Henry cannot have bootstrapped Horse Signs from it on 18 May. A player who gives the 13 May answer unchanged is reading the trope rather than running the clock.

  • This is a controlled foal, not a canon correction.
  • The mark may persist only if the player explicitly buys that biological path; it cannot be silently assumed.
  • Patty Smith consensus is evidence of House belief, not evidence of truth.
  • Horse Signs cannot travel backward before its triggering word without another path.

  • Olivia sees no mark and retains only the ordinary ‘Henry is keen’ read.
